Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a serious lung disease that over time makes it hard to breathe.
COPD — emphysema, chronic bronchitis or both — can cause long-term disability and death. It is often not found until the disease is very advanced because people do not know the early warning signs. A late diagnosis can limit treatment options.
How serious is COPD?
More than 12 million people in the U.S. have COPD.
Another 12 million people may have impaired lung function, not diagnosed as COPD.
COPD is the fourth leading cause of death in the U.S. and more women than men die from the disease. Smoking is the major cause of COPD.
The good news is that COPD can be diagnosed early and there are effective treatments to help manage the disease. Please be sure to speak with your healthcare provider if you’re at risk, and remember, we’re here to help.
The American Lung Association offers information about COPD, lung cancer and other lung diseases at www.LungUSA.org. You'll also find support and help with treatment decisions if you've been diagnosed.
You can also call our Lung HelpLine at 800-LUNG-USA (800-586-4872) to speak with a registered nurse or respiratory therapist. Learning about COPD and knowing your options can help you feel more in control.

Wow, COPD is another threat. Smokers should see this post. If they only know VirtuSmoke they dont have to worry that much.
It is really proven that smoking kills so we have to stop this bad habit as early as now. If you are however a long time smoker who has been trying to quit but to no recourse then there are other smoking alternatives that are less risky to your health and will help you quit smoking the nicotine cigarettes.
I wonder if anyone has had experience of hypnosis to stop smoking?
To quit from the deadly addiction of nicotine, we urge you to buy Chantix which is FDA approved and widely acclaimed by all doctors worldwide. All the necessary guidelines and experts comments are available 24*7 at Chantix online.
